There’s something about fall in Travelers Rest.
The mornings get a little cooler, the mountains begin to change, patios fill up, and weekends seem to come with an endless list of reasons to get outside. Whether you’re headed to the Upstate for a Furman football game, visiting family, spending a weekend in Greenville, or simply looking for a fall getaway, October is one of the best times to make Travelers Rest your home base.
And while you could certainly see a lot in a day, we think TR is even better when you stay awhile.
Make a Weekend of It
One of the best things about Travelers Rest is its location. Downtown Greenville, Furman University, the Blue Ridge Mountains and some of the Upstate’s best outdoor recreation are all within easy reach — while downtown TR has plenty to keep you busy without ever getting back in the car.
Start your morning with coffee and breakfast downtown before walking or biking the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail. Spend the afternoon browsing local shops, head toward the mountains for a hike or scenic drive, and make your way back to TR for dinner and drinks.
Then do it all over again the next morning.
Staying overnight gives you time to experience Travelers Rest at the pace it was meant to be enjoyed.

October is a busy month at nearby Furman University, bringing families, alumni, prospective students and football fans to the area.
Furman Family Weekend takes place October 2–4, followed later in the month by the university’s Bicentennial Homecoming celebration October 22–25. Football games and other campus events add even more reasons to visit throughout the fall.
If Furman is bringing you to the Upstate, Travelers Rest is just minutes away and makes an easy addition to your weekend.
Grab breakfast before heading to campus, rent bikes and explore the Swamp Rabbit Trail, spend an afternoon shopping along Main Street, or make a dinner reservation in TR after the game. Better yet, stay nearby and turn your Furman visit into a full Upstate getaway.

Experience Fall in TR
October brings plenty happening right here in Travelers Rest, too.
The Travelers Rest Farmers Market’s Harvest Market kicks off October 1 and takes place Thursday evenings throughout the month at Trailblazer Park. Expect local vendors, food, live music and an easygoing fall evening in one of TR’s favorite gathering places.
On October 18, Travelers Rest Fest returns to Field Trip TR for a full day of live music and community.
Beyond the bigger events, you’ll find live music, trivia nights, run clubs, local gatherings and plenty of opportunities to experience TR like a local throughout the month.

Coming for Fall for Greenville? Add TR to Your Weekend
Fall for Greenville returns October 9–11, bringing a full weekend of food, music and festivities to downtown Greenville.
If the festival is already bringing you to the Upstate, add an extra day — or an extra night — and head north to Travelers Rest.
We’re close enough to easily pair with a Greenville weekend, but different enough to feel like another destination entirely. Trade the crowds for a morning on the trail, wander Main Street, grab lunch at a local restaurant, or head farther north toward the mountains before returning to TR for the evening.
